3 fatal mistakes you are making as a beginner writer(and how you can avoid it).

Today’s piece is a bit on the educational side.

So, ignore it if it isn’t your cup of joe.

To everyone else, let’s dive in:

(Estimated reading time: 1 minute, 39 seconds)

Oh, look at me.

I’ve written every single day since January 1st, 2022.

Go on, be jealous.

I mean, I’ve churned out 7319 tweets, 200+ threads, and almost 1000 words a day. Impressive, right?

Of course, I wasn’t always this spectacular. I made mistakes. Loads of them.

But hey, mistakes are like the spicy jalapeños in the taco of life, right? Some you need to experience, and some you’d rather just avoid.

Here are three mistakes you can skip without missing out on any of that delicious life-taco flavor:

1. Trying to find the time to write, instead of making time to write.

I used to THINK of waking up at 4 AM and churn out content like a madman.

But, I failed every single day for 10 straight days. (Yeah, I know, WHAT A LOSER)

It wasn’t until I started blocking time on the calendar that I actually followed the schedule.

Newsflash: You’ll never “find” the time to write.

MAKE the time, like a boss. Block out a couple of hours a day, like I do, and get those creative juices flowing.

2. Focusing on perfection over published.

Perfectionists unite! (Or don’t, because nothing will ever be good enough for you.)

I used to be a perfectionist, too.

But then I realized that writing online is like throwing spaghetti at the wall - you’ve just got to see what sticks.

Stop worrying about going viral or losing followers.

Just put in the work, hit that publish button, and let the chips fall where they may. (Probably all over the floor, but hey, that’s life.).

3. Ignoring the editing part (or editing too soon).

Ah, yes. The age-old mistake of hitting “publish” before you’ve even spell-checked your masterpiece. Guilty as charged.

Take it from someone who’s misspelled “public” as “pubic” one too many times: you need to wait at least 12-24 hours before you unleash your writing on the world.

Trust me, it’s worth it.

TL;DR

To sum up, avoid these rookie mistakes, and you’ll be well on your way to online writing greatness:

1. MAKE time to write..

2. Choose published over perfection, because nobody’s perfect (except me, obviously).

3. Edit your work, and for the love of all things holy, wait 12-24 hours before hitting “publish.”

And that’s it for today.

I’ll see you tomorrow.

Cheers,

Kush “imperfectionist” Shah.
