The most dissatisfying thing I ever wrote..
Sep 10, 2022.
My phone & my twitter notifications feed went crazy.
“Great story Kush, so glad you made it this far.”
“Love it, so relatable & heartfelt. Takes courage to be so vulnerable.”
“Bloody retard, using his depression to make money online..”
And many more such reposts, quote tweets, DMs and comments. Also, it was this same thread that pushed me past 2k followers within a day or so. I was at 850 followers or something before this published.
Anyway. That’s not the point.
The point is, I just got lazy. I was on a 3 threads per week challenge (courtesy: A coaching call with Kieran Drew). And I had absolutely nothing to write about that day.
No outlines, no topics, nada.
I went skimming down the rabbit hole of my old journal entries for ideas. And found the whole episode where I struggled with depression, anxiety and almost killed myself.
(More on that in the future..)
I figured I’d just write about that.
Again, I was lazy and it took a shit ton of effort to write & publish something that day. I just didn’t feel like doing anything at all. Just wanted to chill & ignore the whole online shebang.
But a challenge was a challenge.
And within 15-20 minutes, I wrote & published the whole thread. At the time, I was following a post & ghost strategy for my content. Post something & ghost it for 24 hours. i.e I won’t check any notifications for that post for a day.
The day went by and I forgot about the thread.
Cut to next day early morning, a few of my friends (Aniket, Adi) had texted me, congratulated me on the wild success of my thread. I figured they were just messing with me.
Regardless, I decided to check if what they were saying was true.
And it was.
For the first time in 9 months of writing online, my thread had went VIRAL. I was twitter famous (just for a day though).
I had completely abandoned the idea of writing or posting anything that day.
Coming to the point, to this day, it is the most dissatisfying thing I’ve ever wrote, and coincidentally, the most VIRAL thing as well.
And there will be days when you feel the same.
Laziness and procrastination will creep up on you. But you just have to push through. You just have to show up to your writing desk and write, at least for 15-20 minutes a day.
You never know.
It could the piece of content that can land you your first (or next??) client, sale or growth.
Here’s what’s helped me do that consistently for the past 700+ days:
Have a daily non-negotiable of writing at least 30 minutes a day
Write first thing in the morning
No social media or phone until I get that done
Feel free to steal it.
And that’s about it.
I’ll see you next time.
Cheers.
P.S: Here’s how I can help you today:
Write ultra-viral posts in seconds with Postwise: I am not really a big fan of using AI for your writing. But with a sh*t ton of client work, I don’t have the creative liberty of coming up with content ideas. Which is where postwise comes in handy. It generates tweets, threads in seconds on literally any topic you want. The output isn’t extraordinary, but good enough to save you some time & give you something to work with.
