Instant Burnout Cure: 3 Steps for Writers to Balance Projects Effortlessly
I once juggled five ghostwriting projects at once.
Each for a different niche, each with it’s own set of challenges.
My time seemed to vanish, and stress became my best friend (not a good one).
After MONTHS of tiring & unfulfilling work, I took a week’s break. During that week, I took a look into various tactics, strategies & tips that might help me going forward.
Most of it was filled with fluff.
But three tactics stood out. Trust me, you don’t need a list of productivity hacks, you just need a few of them that work.
Let’s dive in:
Block Off Days to Do Zero Work
It's like giving your brain a mini-vacation.
Picture this:
a whole day where your biggest decision is whether to watch Netflix or read that book you've been eyeing.
Bliss, right?
When you chill without thinking about work, you're not just being lazy (I promise!), you're recharging those creative batteries. It's like hitting the reset button.
You come back fresher, more creative, and ready to tackle those writing demons.
So now, every Sunday, I unplug from any and all work (partly because I’m married and my wife needs more attention)
No emails, no writing, nada. I just chill out, spend time with family, or maybe just take a mindless walk through the garden.
Come Monday, I’m like a completely new person – ideas flowing, fingers flying over the keyboard.
Here’s what I want you to do.
Grab your calendar.
Right now. Pick a day next week and boldly mark it as 'No Work Day'. Plan something fun or relaxing.
Take Time to Do Things You Love
Doing what you love outside of work is like a secret sauce for your writing.
Whether it's cooking, hiking, or building model trains – it's all gold.
When you spend time on hobbies, you're not just having fun. You're giving your brain a joy-jolt. This happiness spills over into your work, making your writing more vibrant and alive.
For me, it’s reading some good ol’ fantasy fiction.
Every evening, I pour myself a cup of chamomile tea, crack open a Harry Potter book and read it in my balcony. This switch-up gives me a joy boost, making my next morning’s writing sessions more productive and more fun.
What's that thing you love but haven't done in a while?
Got it? Good. Now, pencil in at least 30 minutes this week to just dive into it.
Watch the magic happen in your writing.
No Tech Times During the Day for Optimal Rest
Time to talk about a tech detox.
Imagine a little oasis in your day with zero screens. Tempting, right?
Going tech-free, even for an hour, is like giving your brain a mini spa session. It cuts the constant noise and lets your thoughts breathe. You'll find yourself more relaxed, and guess what?
That's when the best ideas pop up.
So, starting today, choose an hour where you'll go full Amish – no tech.
Maybe it's right before bed or during lunch. Use this time to do something calming. Read, meditate, or just daydream. Your brain (and your writing) will thank you.
There you have it, people – three super simple but crazy effective ways to keep your writing game strong without burning out.
Hope you’re enjoying reading this as much as I enjoy writing it.
I’ll see you tomorrow.
Cheers muchachos.
