Money-making X creator v/s shallow 9-5 slave

Guess who won?

Hey Anon.

Wouldn’t you love it if you had the freedom to do whatever the hell you wanted, whenever you wanted, without worrying about your boss or your company?

That’s exactly what I realized I have (albeit unexpectedly) when I bumped into an old friend of mine in a cafe.

Here’s the whole story:

"X is dying"

I stumbled into an old colleague of mine at a cafe.

I was working on some ghostwriting stuff and sipping iced-americano when he gave me a hard pat on the back.

“Kush! It’s me, from that {old desk job that we both hated} remember?”

Ofcourse, I remembered.

He invited himself to my table, ordered a cappuccino (milk with coffee was the first red flag he showed) and forced me to pause my work, get out of my flow state and have a chat with him.

“So, what do you do?” he asked in a pretentious humble tone.

“I write tweets, threads & emails for my clients and help them make more money”

He snorted, like I was talking about a pyramid scheme.

“No, I meant what do you do for a living?”

“I do THIS for a living”

“So, is that how you’re paying for your coffee?”

And trust me, I wanted to keep my mouth shut. I didn’t hate on his 9-5. Why would he look down on what I do? Just because I don’t work a 9-5, does that mean I shouldn’t make more money than him?

I. LOST IT.

“Yeah. That’s how I’m paying for my coffee, my electricity bills, the phone in my pocket, the macbook that I’m writing on, the random gifts I give to my wife & my parents, the branded clothes I’m wearing atm.”

“Wow, I hate to say this dude but this could be an MLM scheme.”

And then, I had to show him some of the invoices my clients paid. His jaw-dropped on the floor and his eyes widened to the size of a football.

“Are you okay?” I said, in the humblest way possible.

And swear to god, I didn’t mean to do this, but since he was so mean to me, I had to: “Oh, and that’s how I am going to pay for your cappuccino too.”

And I left the cafe with a victorious grin on my face.

Guys and girls clapping while I wave at them as I walk out with the gladiator music playing in the background.

Actually, no.

That’s not what happened. I sat there and explained in detail what I do and by the end of the explanation, he too, wanted to join the creator economy.

My point?

I know most of you are chained to your desk jobs. And I’m not hating on them.

But, after 672 days of consistent writing, I can tell you this: THERE IS A WAY OUT. You don’t need to quit your job for it.

You can start learning a skill on the side, and wait till you start earning a decent income from it.

Trust me: there was no better time to start making a living online doing what you love.

Once you know how to write well, you can start building an audience by sharing and talking about your passions, attract a tribe of like-minded people and finally break yourself free from the 9-5 grind.

So, the lesson for today: Whatever you do, wherever you are, it’s possible to make a living doing what you love.

Photography, fashion, graphic design, video editing, copywriting.

Whatever the hell your interests? You can get paid for it.

You just need to have a ton of patience and a lot of resilience to get there.

But trust me, it’s so worth it.

P.S (yeah, there’s a PS): If you want to make this journey a whole lot easier, High Impact Writing is for you.

It teaches you everything from content creation strategy to how to write your tweets & long-form posts and has all the templates you need to make this a whole lot easier.
