The Power of Writing: 8 Ways How Writing Every Day Can Change Your Life

I’ve written every day since January 4th, 2022.

The main reasons I started writing online was because:

  • I wanted to build an audience

  • I wanted to land clients

  • I wanted to make a living off the internet

There’s nothing wrong with these goals.

Except, these were the by-products of the skill I wanted to pursue (writing online.)

Ever since I started writing online, these goals faded away.

So much so that I stopped caring about them. I fell in love with writing everyday.

And eventually, those goals came as a by-product of my showing up every day to write.

But these weren’t the only benefits of writing every day.

So, in case you’re considering whether or not you should pursue writing, here are some reasons that might help you make a better decision (and get you started):

Clarity of thinking

The more you write, the easier it gets to communicate your ideas.

When you write, you are:

  • Putting your thoughts on paper

  • Organizing it in a way that resonates with the reader

  • Capturing ideas so your brain is free to think of new ideas

The first step is always the hardest. But once you get started, it gets much easier.

Once you master the art of showing up every single day, you’ll experience some of these benefits:

  • articulate your thoughts better

  • be concise

  • explain complex concepts in simple terms

You will learn how to capture (and keep your readers attention).

Discipline in other areas of your life

Writing is hard.

It’s a constant battle against the voice in your head that tells you to give up, to stop, that you’re not good enough.

When you show up to write everyday, you’re telling that voice to fuck off.

You’re telling it that you will not give up.

You’re building up discipline.

And as you become more disciplined in your writing, it bleeds into other areas of your life:

  • Working out

  • Reading

  • Productivity

You will have the discipline of a navy SEAL and the focus of a monk.

Building new connections

Writing online exposes your work to a million people if done well.

You will get:

  • fans

  • haters

  • friends

  • mentors

You will meet people from all walks of life, from all over the world.

You will find your tribe. The people who get you, who understand you.

You will find your people.

Writing is a recession-proof skill

In tough economic times, people don’t stop reading.

They read more.

Why?

Because reading is an escape. It’s a way to forget your troubles and immerse yourself in another world.

And people will always want to escape.

So, if you can write well, you will always have a skill that is in demand.

Everything you see online involves writing.

  • Websites

  • Podcasts

  • Youtube videos

  • Tweets and threads

Once you learn how to write well, you’ll never go broke.

Improve your storytelling

The best way to improve your storytelling is to write every day.

If you want to be an excellent writer, you need to be a wonderful storyteller.

Writing every day will hone your storytelling skills.

You will:

  • learn how to capture the attention

  • build suspense

  • create likable characters

You will become a master of the craft.

Embrace failure

Every writer goes through a phase where they feel like they’re not good enough.

I still have those moments.

But over time, you see failure as a good thing.

It’s not something to be afraid of.

It’s something to embrace.

Because every time you fail, you’re one step closer to success.

When you write, some pieces might go viral.

Most of them won’t.

The more you publish on the internet, the more you’ll realize the importance of failure,

In fact, you’ll stop viewing your writing as content and start viewing them as data points.

Develop a problem-solving approach

When you write, you will come across problems.

It’s inevitable.

And the only way to solve these problems is to have a problem-solving approach.

You need to:

  • identify the problem

  • come up with potential solutions

  • test these solutions

  • evaluate the results

You will develop a problem-solving approach.

And this will bleed into your writing as well.

Writing because it’s a trending topic ❌

Writing because it solves a problem ✅

Think about this:

  • why should the reader read what you’ve written?

  • Does it solve a problem?

Soon, you’ll see this pattern repeat every time you pick a topic to write.

And eventually, you’ll develop a problem-solving mindset.

Build authority in your curiosity

You will never run out of things to write about.

Why?

Because the world is huge and there’s always something new to learn.

You can never write about everything. But you can write about anything that interests you.

You can write about:

  • How to start a business

  • How to invest

  • How to travel

With writing, you pursue your curiosities and develop expertise in it.

The more you write about a topic, the more people recognize you with it.

So, to recap:

8 ways how writing every day can change your life:

Embrace failure

Clarity of thinking

Building new connections

Become a master storyteller

Develop a recession-proof skill

Build authority in your curiosity

Discipline in other areas of your life

Develop a problem-solving approach

But, these are the experiences that I had.

You may have a completely unique set of benefits. But you will never know until you write online.

So, what are you waiting for?

Start writing online.

And I promise you, it will change your life.

P.S:

A quick note:
