A twitter ghostwriter's secret to almost guarantee virality
I used it to generate 4M impressions for myself.
I was listening to a podcast where they had Dakota Robertson on.
If you’re not following him on twitter, I can guarantee you’re living under a rock.
Anyway, he’s a master at the twitter game (200k followers!!)
And he credits much of his success to writing threads that popped off and got him a ton of followers.
You see, thread writing is an art.
You can spend countless hours writing a thread that gets zero engagement (and probably some self-doubt on your part)
When asked about what makes a thread go viral, he said he’d come up with a formula that works almost all the time.
(P.S: Eating pineapple pizza can turn you into a nerd or a genius like he is.)
Here they are and here’s how the formula works:
Benefit x Relevance x Reach / Perceived effort.
Use any numbers from 1 - 10 for each when you write and review the thread you’ve written.
Score for Max chances of virality = 100.
(Aim for the highest number possible)
Factor 1: Benefit
Here’s the harsh truth:
Nobody gives a fuck about who you are.
They only give a fuck about what you can do for them.
And to do that, maximise the benefits the reader has.
It’s a simple thing, if you don’t emphasize on the benefits, nobody’s going to read your shit. It’s that simple.
Always make a list of at least 5-10 benefits for the reader before you even start writing.
“What’s in it for me?”
Factor 2: Relevance
This is the question you should be asking yourself: Is this relevant to my audience?
If you’re a writer, and you’re writing about how to become a better basketball player, do you think it will get any engagement?
No, right?
So, the next step is to take a few minutes to reflect on whether the benefits that you laid out in the first step are actually relevant to your brand and the audience you have built.
It’s that simple.
Factor 3: Reach
This is a tricky one.
You need to be a part of a few engagement groups or form a network who are willing to share your content.
And their audience should be larger than yours so you get maximum reach.
If your content is good, congratulations!
VIRALITY IS GUARANTEED.
But, if your content is bad, no amount of shares and likes is going to make up for it.
Factor 4: Perceived effort.
Another tricky one.
Your job as a writer is to make the topics AS EASY AS POSSIBLE for the reader to read.
For context: You can talk about quantum physics, but your job is to make it SO easy and SO simple to read, that even a 5th grader would get the gist of what you’re trying to say.
So, the perceived effort for the reader to read should be LOW.
Lower effort = higher chances for the reader to read through the whole thing.
To summarize:
4 elements you need to take into account for guaranteed virality:
Benefit.
Relevance.
Reach.
Perceived effort.
And that’s about it for this week.
Next week, we’ll be talking about how and why you should dive deeper into the copywriting world (and how I’m doing it, in case you’re interested) to 10x your writing skills fast.
Signing off until then.
Kush.
