How to use controversy to build an audience
{The right way ofcourse..)
Alright everyone.
How’re we all doing today morning/evening?
I’m feeling feisty today.
For a couple of reasons.
1) Got my 8 hours of sleep
2) Got my writing reps in for the day
3) Wrote a thread in 20 minutes flat
4) A break from client work
Nothing above is useful for you.
Just didn’t know how to start this email, so I figured I’d throw in a bit of my personality.
…ANYWAY
Let’s get to it:
This is an absolute truth...
Agree or disagree? twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

FORTY SEVEN FUCKING THOUSAND LIKES!!
For most of us, it’s a dream.
For AOP? It’s just another day.
There’s not much to decode here except the BIG IDEA.
And the big idea here?
YOU DON’T HAVE TO DRESS HALF NAKED TO LOOK BEAUTIFUL.
We either agree with this, or disagree with this.
But apart from those two?
WE ALL HAVE AN OPINION ABOUT THIS.
Which is probably what drove this meme mega viral.
Add to that, a question that subtly prompts the reader to respond to it
(just take a look at the comments, it’s insane)
And everything in this meme is designed to get the readers’ attention.
The picture with the quote.
The question.
That’s pretty much what drove this tweet.
So, how can you use this?
Share a controversial opinion.
Add a picture to it.
Subtly insert a question that drives engagement.
You don’t neccessarily have to add a picture.
You can just share a controversial opinion and leave it there.
Here’s how:
“Reading non-fiction is for losers. Winners read fiction.
Agree or disagree?”
See your comments section go crazy.
And that’s about it.
Next week (or the week after that), I’ll be sharing a notion doc with you filled with templates I’ve used over and over for my clients to generate millions of impressions for them.
So, until next time.
Cheers.
