This warmup routine has helped me write for 863 days..

Yo anon.

So, I've been proud of my 863-day writing streak.

And lately, everyone’s been asking me:

“How do you get into flow state?”

So, I figured why not turn this into content?

To everyone who’s interested... these are the steps I take to quickly enter a flow state. These steps work for me—give them a try and see how they work for you.

Let’s get started:

Make a good cup of hot V60 pour-over or a double espresso shot

This is optional and only for mornings.

After 45 minutes of walking, stretching, and cardio, I'm primed to write.

A good cup of hot V60 pour-over or a double espresso shot completes my routine, getting me into the writing mindset.

I also listen to a fiction audiobook while brewing my coffee to ease into the creative mindset.

Once that coffee is done, we move on to the next step.

Set a 10-minute timer to brain-dump your thoughts for elite mental clarity

Too many thoughts can make it hard to focus at the start.

Imprison your monkey mind by writing down everything without any filter: thoughts, tasks, to-do lists, or random songs.

This technique has helped me start each writing session with a clear mind, boosting my productivity by 10x.

Read a copywriting book to get into the copy mindset

With a clear mind, it’s time to prime it with compelling hooks and persuasive language.

My go-to copywriting books are:

- The Adweek Copywriting Handbook for its practical tips

- Great Leads for crafting strong openings

- The Ultimate Sales Letter for structuring persuasive sales copy

Reading these books primes your mind with compelling hooks, persuasive language, and effective calls to action, making your writing more impactful.

All online writing is persuasive.

You’re trying to evoke an emotion or action from the reader.

So, grab a good copywriting book & always keep it on your desk.

Read it before starting your work, and refer back to it whenever you need inspiration.

Handcopy sales pages or viral Twitter threads for 30 minutes

I’ve sworn by this habit a lot.

Handcopying good writing absorbs techniques and improves your skills.

It enhances your understanding of rhythm, tone, and persuasive techniques in writing.

Good writing examples include:

- Tweets

- Threads

- Newsletters

- Blog posts

- Anything else you pass off as good writing

Don’t skip this step.

Have multiple outlines ready

It’s easier to procrastinate when staring at a blank page.

An outline is a rough draft of key points you want to discuss.

When writing, you simply expand on those points, preventing the dreaded blank page.

This approach ensures you always have a roadmap, making it easier to maintain your writing momentum.

Easy-peasy.

And there you go. Not so complicated, right?

Put on synthwave music or Brain.fm, start writing, and let me know how these steps work for you.

Cheers, and happy writing.

Let me know if you have any questions.
